Identifying Cognitive Bias and Emotional Response to Appearance-related Stimuli

چکیده
An inferior body image is the main diagnostic criterion for eating disorders and it is positively correlated with avoidance coping strategy using. The users of avoidance coping strategy indicate attentional bias to attractive stimuli (Kwak & Lee, 2007). Also they show more negative affect, stress, and body dissatisfaction after exposure to appearance-related stimuli than before exposure (Stewart & Williamson, 2003). Most women are negatively affected by thin stimuli exposure (TE) because of social comparison (Festinger, 1954). However, oversize stimuli exposure (OE) could be worked as social pressure, as they regard this stimulus as threatening. In this study, using the eye-tracking device and self-report scales, the cognitive and emotional differences between high avoidance coping strategy users (HA) and low avoidance coping strategy users (LA) were investigated after exposure to TE and OE.

Chronic Pain and Selective Attention to Pain Arousing Daily Activity Pictures: Evidence From an Eye Tracking Study
Introduction: According to the pain research literature, attentional bias for pain is the mechanism responsible for the development and maintenance of fear of pain in patients with chronic pain. However, there is still some debate about the exact mechanism and the role of faster engagement versus difficulty in disengagement in the development of attentional bias. Methods: To investigate ...
متن کاملEmotional sensitization highlights the attentional bias in blood-injection-injury phobics: an ERP study.
The presence of an attentional bias towards disorder-related stimuli has not been consistently demonstrated in blood phobics. The present study was aimed at investigating whether or not an attentional bias, as measured by event-related potentials (ERPs), could be highlighted in blood phobics by inducing cognitive-emotional sensitization through the repetitive presentation of different disorder-...
متن کاملEmotion Evaluation and Response Slowing in a Non-Human Primate: New Directions for Cognitive Bias Measures of Animal Emotion?
The cognitive bias model of animal welfare assessment is informed by studies with humans demonstrating that the interaction between emotion and cognition can be detected using laboratory tasks. A limitation of cognitive bias tasks is the amount of training required by animals prior to testing. A potential solution is to use biologically relevant stimuli that trigger innate emotional responses. ...

One major focus of anxiety research in recent years has been the identification of cognitive factors that promote increased vulnerability to anxiety. Cognitive formulations propose that anxiety is characterised by an increased tendency to attend to negatively valenced emotional information, and that this bias may play a causal role in the development and maintenance of clinical anxiety. Evidenc...
